Our Journey Home from Jordan Aboard the Emma Baake
This gallery was begun on July 26, 2005 -- AND FOR THE COMING WEEKS WILL BE IN PROCESS.
After more than two years of service with the Home and School in Ramallah, in August of 1954 we journeyed home by ship, the Emma Bakke - a long, 35 day trip to New York. On its very next voyage the Emma Baake blew up and sank, with some loss of life. In 35 days there were many stops for sightseeing and getting the local flavor - including Izmir, Turkey, Athens, and Seville, Spain. To get there we had a long trip up La Ria Guadilquivir. That's one of the few rivers in the world flowing from south to north.
Sailed to USA on Freighter EMMA BAKKE in August, 1954. On her next voyage she blew up and sank! Photo Contributed.
