Gratitude floods our minds and hearts as we look back on the histories of our families.

Susan is an only child - Bob has five brothers and two sisters. Our families are Iowans.

Susan was born in Glenwood, Iowa and was raised on a farm in the Hastings, Iowa area. Bob was born and raised in Mason City, Iowa.

Bob's father, Carl Grupp, emigrated to the United States of America from Germany. He left home at the age of 14, lived and worked for five years in London, England, and then came to the USA -- settling in Mason City, Iowa where an uncle lived. That's where he met and courted his bride, Bess Larinda Owen.
