Like many of the old great train songs, our interest in model railroading seems to fade with time. At the Adobe Mountain Desert Railroad Park it is alive….. and growing. An article in the Arizona Republic reporting on the new facilities and layouts being built inspired my visit. The focus was on the Garden Railroad being built there, an outdoor layout that eventually will occupy 35,000-sq. ft. of desert.
While it is still under construction, you can visit the site on Saturday from 8:00 AM – Noon and see a run on an initial layout. The detail in the layout, construction of tunnels, bridges and grading is incredible.
The G-Scale project is just one part of the project. The new clubhouse is nearing completion and will house N-Scale and HO-Scale layouts. A large covered patio provides relief from the Arizona sun as well.
Members of the Arizona Model Railroading Society, volunteering their own time and money are doing all this hard work. The ARMS will be sponsoring a major swap meet at the location in October, but you need not wait until then to visit.
