Huddart Park is located in northern California, in a place called Woodside just off 101. At about a thousand acres, the heavily-wooded (redwoods) park has trails for both hiking and horseback riding.
When photographing a forest, I like to shoot through branches and leaves against a deep blue sky. But heavy cloud cover that morning meant no blue skies and nary a chance to see a sunrise or a sunset. I didn’t have my macro lens and tripod with me either, so getting up-close to shoot smaller habitats was also out of the question. Walking through the forest trail, I only had a single wide-angle lens and a prayer. What to shoot?
Not to worry. The forest provided more opportunity than I had time to spare: silhouettes of giant redwoods, tiny cobwebs laced around giant tree trunks, and an unexpectedly diverse and interesting forest undergrowth. I started that day with a pre-conceived plan on how to present the soul of Huddart Forest. I left with images that did just that, but in the way the forest wanted me to. More Info: Huddart Park Enjoy.
