The Ifugaos are a people born of hardship. Rice is planted on steep hills that has to be prepared, plowed, tendered, and then harvested. And although their towns aren't that far from each other, poor roads and limited transportation modes make the modest distances a real journey. They walk to school, they walk to market, and they carry everything they own up and down the terraces. We lowland folks take too many things for granted! But if this is hardship, you don't see it in their faces. Their children are just as happy and their elderly are just as contented as most others we've seen in the lowands. Just a matter of perspective? Enjoy.
