We are presently experiencing a cold "winter" here in Sydney, and the
wildlife are having a rather bleak time of it. The family of rainbow
lorikeets that come to call on our backyard have made themselves at
home, not only to get much needed food for themselves and their single
offspring, but also to get shelter from the cold rain and wind by
parking on our kitchen window sill.

Hanging around impatiently expecting their daily bread, they have
become more approachable, even cheeky. The moment we appear, they
descend on us. This has given me the opportunity to take more intimate
snap shots of these colorful feathered visitors: preening, grooming
each other, force -feeding their young, and treating me like your
average tree (the last photo taken by Irene).
