A popular song of my father's times, goes: "Just a song a twilight/when the lights are low/and the flickering shadows/softly come and go". Half-light is Nature's wondrous fleeting moment. The Filipino expression is "nagaagaw ang liwanag at dilim" (light and dark are in struggle).
At Fraser Island there were many such magic moments. The broken pastel colors of the surf ala Monet; a distant flock of cockatoos at early dawn; a white-faced heron patrolling the waters; a full red moon on the rise; a dingo's eyes glowing in the dark....
In my days with film photography I would "push" the film and then instruct the developer to adjust to, say, times three ASA. With digital, well, —you experiment. There's skimpy light and you had better be quick and capture that image before the dark or light side wins the struggle.
