The 101 is currently the tallest building in the world. I first visited it in June 2004 when only the lower shopping floors were open to the public. I only had a few hours to shoot then, and only during the day. But I knew such a magnificent structure has got to look awesome at night, so I promised that one day i will return...
Last November 2005, I returned with a mission, this time to capture The 101 at night.
Andy and I had a chance to go all the way to the 91st floor, quite an experience on high-speed elevators! But the night sky was hazy and only a handful of shots taken from the top were decent enough to show. Yet, I had a great time shooting around the base. I hope this album gives you a sense of the night life around it. Yes, it was as beautiful as I had imagined.
A special thanks to my very good friend Andy Chiu, a Filipino expat living in Taipei, for his hospitality and time. Talking about times that have passed is a great way to frame our perspective of the future.
Nice shots, Bobby! I was here two years ago but did not had the chance to photograph it right. I had only a few minutes in Taipei before I boarded my flight to Kaoshiung on my way to Lanyu (Orchid Island). I snapped at the tower from inside the 737 but the thick window glass prevented me from getting decent images. I would love to come back and set up my tripod. Noli
