This hummer was captured in the courtyard at our rental home in Chandler AZ in March '05. When we first arrived I noticed hummers feeding at the aloe plants and immediately got a h-bird feeder to encourage their visits. The verdict is still out on the species identificaton of this hummer. It may be a female Anna's Hummer, which is described as usually having fine red spots on the throat. Her underparts are usually dingy gray and her flanks are green. Her bill is long and straight. It is observed that females hold her tail perfectly straight while feeding.
