The nearest town to the Petrified Forrest and the Painted Desert is Hilbrook, AZ. It's not a very big place, mostly a truck stop but with a lot of tourist shops selling petrified wood and Indian jewelry etc. But we did pass and interesting sign on the way into town, they were selling Ostrich Eggs and Meteiorites for 50% off. We were almost tempted to stop and get one of each but then we though of keeping the Ostrich egg for another ten days and thought better of it.
