Hi Brian, your brilliant photos put extra flavour to my unforgetable, sweet memories of my 3.5 years, adventurous childhood in Nairobi and Kenya. Anyone knos anyone who also went to school at Kestral Manor (1976) and St Mary's (1976-1979)? My family unfortunately had to leave this beatiful country way back in 1979, as our father passed away in Mombasa much too young only 39 years old. Kenya was back in the late 70's a beaatiful pearl. The Kenyans and their rich culture and naturally the overwhelming nature had a deep impact on me. I visited Kenya again in 1992 and hope to come back soon, perhaps with my wife and three children to show them where papa went to school, played football, had numerous safaris and played in the coral sand and reefs with my two brothers at Mombasa. Yeh, those memories will certainly always have a very special place in my heart. So with my background, I wish Kenya and all Kenyans all the best to cope with the numerous challenges and hard times in the next decades. After two and ahalf years away from home one is starved of the sights, sounds and smells that is Kenya. My country is vibrant and colorful and I miss it. I have not seen anything like this. Am a Kenyan but I myself have seen sights in these pictures I have not seen since birth, or didn't even know we had. I am out of Kenya for the past 2 months and I am already missing it Mbaya Sana. I am a teacher nyeusi kabisa teaching kids who have never had contact with an African. They were afraid of my skin, 'interesting colour' they'd say. 2 months down the line every kid in the school wants to be taught by me. We need to change what the world sees Africa as; poor, nyuma. Kenya is great but I do think there are other places in Africa that are just as great, if not better! Ghana is one of those places, although not as developed as Kenya, the people are just wonderful and I think thats a major plus for any tourist, well at least in my book! My country, Zimbabwe, is not too bad either despite years of neglect and misrule by the self proclaimed champion of Africa, Robert Matibili Mugabe. Hopefully the shine will be back soon and I think we will give Kenya a run for its money!

No matter what will happen to me, Kenya is my country and that will not change. I'd like to ask all our leaders who just talk about tribalism and yet they are the kingpins of the same...can they please give us a space so as we can deliver ourselves to the destiny since they have refused to take us there. Mind you everywhere Kenyans work, they do work with all other people not mentioning about tribe or clan but the leaders, more so the politicians, keep talking of it just to get votes...

Hey FANTASTIC VERY REFRESHING VIEW most people come to Kenya looking for a Kenyan experience WHICH TO MOST WESTERNERS IS SLUM AND WILDLIFE some of the people I have hosted told me that going to Casablanca and carnival and village market and all these places which are many everyday places is not Kenya they want to eat from road side kiosks and hang out in the slum. As unfortunate as it is and I do not deny that these places exist, it is nice to find someone who is showing my side of Nairobi!!!! There are other people living and loving in Nairobi!!! Thank you!!!!

Thanks Brian. These are the best photos of Kenya I have seen so far. I will be happy to share them with my friends. Keep it up and if you get a chance you can visit some other towns, large tea plantations in Kericho and all the Large Scale farms in the Rift Valley. Great pics, very different from what discovery TV channel shows (wildebeests crossing the Mara river), and CNN showing slums and Aids as if everyone in Kenya has aids and lives in slums, at least with this kind of marketing I think it counters negative portrayal in western media, even most building are better than what i see in Washington DC! That was a picture tour well worth the time. I've been away from home for quite a while and preparing for a long overdue visit and seeing this pics put away alot of the negativity that i'm used to seeing in our online newspapers. at list we have a positive image of nairobi, tired of seeing picture of our dark side (poverty striken street kids, slams etc) and yet nothing is done about it...this makes people in the west think in a very naive about africa in general. Looking at your pictures, words like "Kenya relu...ways, KICC, and KenCom" eventhough missed out, came rushing back to ma mind like it was yesterday!!!! reminiscing about the past! back in the day!!! Im a girl from 16 (Holland)and I went to Kenya 2 months ago with a project for education.. we were there for 8 days and went to the slums -real slums (with security), not for the touristic people.. -, to the maasai -we have slept with a tribe and dance with them in the night,. we visit 2 schools in the south- and we have seen houses for children without parent (KAACR).. every day we have seen many children and schools.. I look to this pictueres and Ive ben in some streets, Ive seen some things to.. but, I also saw the other side of nairobi and it hits me in my face.. Maud

The best Nairobi gallery I've ever seen on the web. When I returned to the states after a recent visit to nairobi, I had a rough time convincing most of my colleagues that nairobi's skyline is as ultramodern as any other American or European city...well here's the proof!
