As a lebanese, I see dr. charbel's comments are illegally stupid. " churches that u've seen are located in pure lebanese christian distincts , no arabs and non lebanese would dare to touch them . churches that are located in arab dominated areas ,are usually bombed and rubbed" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"pure lebanese are of greek phoenician discendent .arabs are the moslems of lebanon"!! WTF!! a guy with these note is purely a radical close minded christian which are few compared to to many openminded christians living in lebanon.

John Lowe , churches that u've seen are located in pure lebanese christian distincts , no arabs and non lebanese would dare to touch them . churches that are located in arab dominated areas ,are usually bombed and rubbed .the bekaa valley can be cut into five parts , the northern eastern , and the eastern , and the southern eastern are muslims ,while central and western part of the bekaa are christian including zahle a greek catholic city which is the capital of bekaa. lebanon is a non muslim country my friend and you cant compare it to the other middle eastern countries . in lebanon a lot of ethnics live , pure lebanese are of greek phoenician discendent .arabs are the moslems of lebanon and some orthodox of syrian roots . while the maronites and the greek orthodox the catholics and the armenians are non arabs , the culture of the lebanese is similar to the greek or spanish or italian cultures , but not to those of the ksa or iran .lebanon is counted arab country because of the language though its only formal , just to stop the war that lasted from 1975 to 1990 . which ended in a big defeat to the lebanese christians and to all of the christians in the world .

Great pictures. I am originally from the Bekaa valley (though from none of the towns that you pictured) I'm from the "forgotten" Rachayya region (southeast of Zahle). Although I did go to school in Zahle, in the "Northwest" picture you can see my school smack in the middle...anyways, thanks for the nostalgia :)

Thank you for presenting this fascinating and eye opening gallery. We know little of the middle east except usually what we see in Chuck Norris movies. But as was said many times, a good picture is worth a thousand words. The only thing I was distressed to see was the McDonald's. To think that people pay money to eat that stuff. I am no proponent of terror, but I would like to see mickey dee's get blown up without anyone being hurt.
By the way, as a Catholic, it fealt good to see that the Catholic and Armenian churches are still intact. I try with great difficulty to explain to my fellow Christians that even among the radical Muslims, the sentiment is not so anti-Christian at all as it is anti-U.S. policy.
