My wife and I recently went to France for 10 days. Three days in Paris, one in Chartres, and the rest at a lovely country home in the Dordogne region down south. As a child I saw a film of the Cathedral at Chartres and was taken by it. Upon traveling to France, it was at the top of my list of things to see. We took a train down and spent the day. I walked in silent reverence among the walls of this great monument. It is the gold standard of Gothic cathedral architecture and for me, the highest expression of architecture, engineering, and art to be found anywhere, and they built it when the Earth was still flat. We went to other places of course, though most of the images here are from the Cathedral at Chartres.
