Veliko Tarnovo, in north central bulgaria, was the ancient capital of bulgaria and remained such even into the beginning of the 20th century. It was the center of the bulgarian national revival (also known as the bulgarian renaissance) which produced some of the country's most important art and architecture. Other pictures from the town of Arbanassi and the orthodox monastery of Preobrazheni, both within a couple miles of Veliko Tarnovo.
