modra is just half an hour from bratislava, but surrounded by vineyards and the lazy rolling hills of the Small Carpathians. It's also home to a wine festival... don't mention the wine festival, my head still hurts. The Red Rock castle is a UNESCO world heritage site, fabulously furnished as a proper baroque mansion and with enormous underground vaults for storing copper ore, their like unfound in the rest of central europe.
