Yellow-fronted canaries seem to prefer somewhat dry habitats, and open 'ohi'a scrub and parkland. I usually see them in the 'ohi'a scrub forests along Saddle Road, the 'ohi'a savanna along Powerline Road, Ka'ohe GMA on the leeward slope of Mauna Kea, kipuka puaulu and kipuka ki, and similar areas.
