Photos from trips to the upper windward slope of Kohala.
For New Year's Eve 2008/2009 we ventured along the Upper Hamakua Ditch Trail and then cross-country through the wind-blasted bog forest to Mauga Cabin at 4600 feet elevation in Pu'u 'O 'Umi NAR, for a day of ginger eradication and to learn about the state of Kohala's ecosystems. The location of Mauga Cabin was on the edge of a ridge looking westward toward Kohala's summit ridge and northward toward the familiar pu'us in Kohala's north slope pastures.
