Saddle Cyrtandra

The cyrtandra in the "Kaumana Trail" area of the Saddle often have a particular "look" to them which is somewhat different than I'm used to seeing in other (admittedly few) areas. Compared to other cyrtandra populations I'm familiar with, a greater number of the cyrtandra in this area form mats or shrubs of short fuzzy plantlets with numerous small leaves. There are at least three other species of cyrtandra in the same area, including c. platyphylla and c. lysiosepala. These plants also flower while they're still very small. I thought perhaps these were young c. platyphylla at first, but the fraction of low small-leaved plants compared to large c. platyphylla is quite different than in other areas.

Occasionally I also find similar cyrtandras in other areas.
