In contrast to their vermillion-and-black parents, juvenile i'iwi are a more interesting combination of grey body, black wings and green-gold head. Their heads really shine in the Sun! When they start getting their vermillion adult feathers they begin to look a bit scruffy, and they breifly become black-grey-gold-vermillion calico i'iwi!
