On Monday morning we went back up to Waikamoi and set up camp in the timber plantation ("Hosmer's Grove") above the native forest, above the eastern set of transects we planned to survey that week. We only had a half day to survey, and only did the uppermost stations and transects. The weather was clear and calm. I was assigned the easternmost trail, Pi'ina'au Trail, which is actually a ways to the East from Pi'ina'au Stream. It was fairly quiet, as it often is when it's sunny. When we passed through on Monday there was a pig freshly caught in one of the snares, and we watched in amazement over the next 5 days as it was rapidly devoured by bugs down to a pile of hair and bones.
The sunny weather made it difficult to take decent photos - too much glare and sunbeams. We crossed a few interesting gulches, but there were no good photo angles.
