Sept 16, 2010 - West Honomanu Trail

Pasting in my original notes until I have time to fill this out:

Weather blowing mist until about 10:30, then gradual clearing until
intense sun on contour trail.

WWHON 2 & 3, only as far down as cle tub, and not as far as cya mac
One rotting flower on same cle arb photographed last year, but able to
assemble for OK photo. Find tetraplasandra tree on transect. See
more cyrtandra than I remembered in 2009.

Plenty of 'akohekohe in all the usual places. Plenty viewed well.
Station 1A bird, 2-3 below station 2A, 2 at station 2B, 2 on pali
below station 3A, and 2 heard from station 3B. Juvenile parrotbill
heard from station 2A, and male, banded (?)female and begging juvenile
encountered on way back through station 2B.

Greenhouse: Plantago princeps, phy bra, phy bre, phy pil, phy ???
lys rem, sch hil, arg gra, cle sam Not well stocked right now, and
cyanea horrida not looking good.

phy bra tiny white flowers, and white fuzzy foliage.
phy bre medium dark leaves and mostly glabrous
phy pil outside in same spot.

Transects:
WWHON02: Hearing juv MAPA closer to transect 1. Hearing station 1A AKOH.
50 meters group of 4 MAAL with begging juv. 50-75 meters along hear
3 AKOH spread out. 150m 3 MAAL seem to be attracting members of
previous group as they near each other. 170m 3 AKOH. 400m 1 MAAL.
440m 2 station 2B AKOH.

WWHON03: 3 MAAL at 30m

Other:

Station 1A AKOH. Return trip: 2 AKOH by departure from station 3B.
Halfway back: 1-2 AKOH and answering AKOH on other side of valley.
Station 3A Pair of AKOH. Station 2B singing male MAPA and curious AKOH.
Closely followed by banded MAPA (AL/GR,RE/GR) and begging juv.
1/3 of way up trans 2, 2 AKOH. 2/3 of way up trans 2, 1-2 AKOH.
Station 1A AKOH as usual, but cannot solidly confirm.

Unsure if MAPA juveniles are same.

Station 1A AKOH, also heard at 2A.
2-3 AKOH 1/3 of way into trans 2 both ways. Unsure how these are
related to next 3. 2 AKOH near station 2B as usual. 2 AKOH below
station 3A. 2 AKOH heard halfway along trans 3. 2-3 AKOH heard
widely scattered near station 3B. Difficult to sort out potential
repeats.
