This image shows the central portion of the constellation
Cygnus, a region filled with ionized clouds of hydrogen,
glowing red from the radiation of nearby stars. The "Butterfly"
is seen above the bright star in this image (gamma Cygni), its
two wings separated by a dark cloud that lies between us and the
glowing region. Among the other patches of red nebula, you can see
the "Crescent Nebula" near the bottom left of this image.
