Dwarf Galaxy Leo 1

Our Milky Way galaxy has a number (19 at last count) of smaller
galaxies which orbit around it, much as the planets orbit around
the sun. A couple of the satellite galaxies are fairly bright: the
two Magellanic Clouds. The rest, however, are rather dim. Leo 1 is
a dwarf galaxy about 800,000 light years away, making it the most distant
of the satellite galaxies. There are apparently no star-forming
nebula in Leo 1, and new star formation seems to have ceased there
some time ago. The bright blue glow in the lower left corner is from
Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo which is located
just off the edge of this image (and only 78 light years from earth).
