Many old family cemeteries are found in the counties of East Tennessee. Those families that were driven from the mountains when the states of Tennessee and North Carolina expropriated their land and farms for the park left behind not only their homes but their ancestors. This gravesite located on a small knoll in Wears Valley is an example of the many family plots that are still located within the park boundaries.
