French Table

The idea for these table top shots came from puppet who explained her technique to me. This may be the last in my basket series, for now. I tried some things a bit different for this exposure. The goal was to create an image with very large pixels, hopefully that would approach a pointillist painting, with a Kelvin shift to the golds. To do this I shot the set up in a single tungsten light (100 watt but diffused) placed about 15 feet left of the subject. To make the image as grainy as possible I set the ISO for 6400 and place the in camera quality at its lowest setting. I set the W/B at bright daylight (Kelvin 5,200 +/-) while shooting in a light I gauged to be below Kelvin 3,000 to cause the required color shift.
Thanks again puppet. Hope you all enjoy it. Fun thing to do once the sun goes down. To see the results with the pixels, view in original.

It is a lovely still life, and judging by your and Puppets comment I would guess this was done on film. V

Thanks Don. I'm satisfied and like it but I really don't know how good the final image is. But it was all done as pre-visualized and it was all done in camera. So, in that sense it was successful. :)

Buz;

Success! The combination light and ISO/quality setting worked perfectly. It is an image that does give you a homespun and soft quality feeling.

Hi Buz

Love the tight composition for this image. It is well arranged and well suited for the format of your image as well. I have never attempted the grainy approach but would probably try it next time. I am so please you have had fun with shooting still life. Like you said, it's great fun when you can't shoot outdoor at night. I haven't been updating my gallery for sometime, mainly due to laziness. You probably knew by now that it takes so much more effort to shoot still life than any other form of photography. It takes patience and dedication. For every still life shot, I have at least 30 images just to get the composition right before I can go on to set the lighting etc. But rewarding though. Thanks for sharing your wonderful images. I will still come back for a visit to look at your other wonderful photography. Best of luck. Puppet
