The devastation caused by the balsam wooly adelgid (and acid rain) to the fir trees is still widespread. Nevertheless, the Mountain Ash and the Yellow Birches seem to be increasing in the spaces left by the dead firs. Occasional healthy stands of young spruce-fir are seen. Perhaps in time the Canadian forest will recover and return to its former beauty.
