This gentle trail that runs along Middle Prong in the Tremont area of the Smoky Mountains offers photo opportunities every few steps. Every boulder is covered with lichens and moss; every inch of ground is covered with vegetation. Along the length of decaying logs new life eventually find a foothold. It is one of the prettiest and less crowded trails in the park and you're never away from the roar of the stream as tumbles it's way to an ever lower level.
The mist rising from the surface provides a natural air conditioning and the aroma from the decaying hemlock needles and the rhododendron leaves is as unique as the smell of the spruce-fir forest some 4,000 feet higher up.
