Inspired by Ro Purser's famous Murrini Spheres, Carl Fisher creates all sorts of murrine and millie canes using not glass, but fimo clay, and then makes spheres using all of those images and millie. VERY cool stuff if you love marbles and spheres as much as I do! Similar to what Ro does, it's a LONG and painstaking process to creates this many different images, pull them down in cane from, cut them up and then create a nice sphere from it all. The fimo slices are laid over top of a large glass core, so the marble has a very similar weight to a regular glass marble, nice and hefty and not nearly as light as it would be if it was just clay. The sphere is then ground to a perfect sphere on his sphere machine and polished, another painstaking process. The end result is utterly fantastic and SO cool to explore in hand. What's even neater with this piece is that you'll see Carl's self-portrait cane throughout the piece, serving as the signature cane, how cool is that!
