"Pokemoney" Size: 0.96" Price: SOLD

I know many of you when looking at this marble, possibly most of you, ha, will take a look at the pics, then take a look at the price, and wonder "what's up with that?" Well, allow me to explain, ha. The short answer is that some things aren't as easy as they might appear. The long answer is that you've probably never seen a marble like this, with solid color all the way through (not just surface work), because it takes a heck of a lot of work to pull this off in a hot flame. You may have seen sectioned spheres in the past with nice clean lines, but those were almost certainly done cold - with slices of glass cut, sanded, then glued together using lamination technique. What Travis did here was to put the marble together hot, giving a different, more natural look, but also creating all sorts of difficulty in keeping everything lined up and straight. There is cold work involved here as well, as the sections have to be cut up first, but then they were assembled hot, and with that much heat, all of those lines want to go everywhere but straight. It's a wonder it's as clean as it is, especially considering this is one of the first couple in this style that Travis has created. I know this one will be reserved for the marble nerdist collectors like me, who really dig the new tech and work that pops up occasionally, and I'm always on the hunt for something new these days. It's no surprise that Travis is doing it again, since he has invented several styles of crazy tech himself over the years. I have seen this attempted once before, in soft glass, about 10 years ago by Canadian artist Francis Coupal. I've got one of those in the collection, and his tech was somewhat similar to Travis, with some of the same and some different struggles. Those marbles have the same imperfect lines - it's what hot glass wants to do. It's awesome to see this thinking pop up again! Travis loves a challenge though, so look out! A special marble for a special collector, which I'm also content to keep forever. Oh, almost forgot, those rings are energized! Signed 'Weber 17'.
