"Trapped in Splendor" Size: 2.52" (glass) x 3.57" (total) Price: SOLD

Prepare to have your mind trapped in a web of extreme creativity!! With this piece here, Nathan is seriously pushing the envelope of the possibilities out there, an idea so unique as to make you reconsider how far we might still be able to go. Now, we are of course pushing the limits here of what a 'marble' is, ha, but whether or not you see the marble cage as a marble, the marble trapped inside the glass, wood and metal cage IS indeed a marble. And the glass cage used to be a large clear hollow marble - but no more 'just' a hollow marble, as Nathan took it waaaay beyond that.

Here's Nathan's description about this mind-boggler: "A marble suspended inside a glass cage. The glass cage started as a clear hollow marble. I carved the walls out and worked a pattern on the side and inside surfaces. Metal pins enter the cage through holes then spear a wood collar that secures the marble suspended in the center. The collar is actually two halves that fit together into a groove carved around the equator of the marble. This way no glue is needed between the wood and the glass, and the sturdiness will never let up. The pins were made from a variety of metal rod and tubes and the wood is mahogany. Those of you that follow me know I don't practice flame working, however one day for a few hours I fooled around and made five little clear marbles. The first one that came out that day is the one suspended here. Doug Whaley kindly formed the marble used for the cage."

Flat out, this is simply a legendary glass creation, using other mixed media to take it to a whole other realm of creative existence. Not to mention the sheer talent just to be able to pull of something like this and bring it to life. A superstar centerpiece for the finest of collections, and I won't let go of it easily!
