Marco Jerman Marbles and Paperweights For Sale

Marco is one of the leading ladies of the early borosilicate marble movement and she was way ahead of the pack in creating seriously amazing underwater themed marbles and paperweights. She hails from the scenic Hocking Hills of Southeastern Ohio, living there with her variety of dogs, cats, fish and birds, and this setting inspires and influences her artwork. She helped run Jerman Art Glass with her late husband and glass artist, Tim Jerman, for 23 years. I haven't seen anything new from Marco in almost 10 years, so I'm assuming she isn't actively blowing glass any more, but she is involved in her community helping other craftspeople. Her husband Tim was a truly gifted and amazing glass artist who created incredibly realistic sealife sculptures, and sadly passed away in 2004.

Marco first learned "off-hand" glass blowing [which means furnace-made] at Ohio University in Athens, OH 1983-86. She started flameworking at that time and is mostly self-taught. Marco concentrated mostly on marbles, creating intricate undersea images with tiny sculptures of sea life. Her series of Eye Ball marbles are whimsy with an edge. Marco's artwork has been exhibited in juried shows and fine galleries all over the US. Often times we will see older marbles get passed by in terms of their technique and application, as artist techniques and tools improve over time, etc. They are still amazing, but we can see they were from an earlier period. Marco's work however has stood the test of time, and is still as beautiful and amazing to me today as it was over 10 years ago when I first saw it. She was truly ahead of her time and a pioneer in her construction of wonderful little water worlds, and her use of dichro in the background just makes them extra gorgeous. These are very hard to come by now, so you will want to grab one of her historical works for your collection while you can!
