These marbles were created by a group of marble artists from the Glass Addiction forum. Kaj Beck headed up the project and led a small team of artists who worked to put the marbles together into their finished form. JD Anderson, Ken 'Spider' Schneidereit and Mike Close made up this team, and they met at the Revere School of Glass in Northern California over the last weekend of Feb 08.
The 'Glass Addiction' milli lettering was made by a large group of artists, each taking a different letter, in hopes that the finished product would have a 'ransom note' look to it. It was a fantastic success! Kaj, Dave Strobel, Shannon Norris, Sabina Boehm, Ben Burton, Travis Weber, Justin Bagley, Kevin Nail, Chris Rice, Spider and Mike Close all made letters, although Ben's letter didn't end up in the finished piece.
JD Anderson made the awesome jellyfish in the main lens of the first marble, and John Bridges made the supersweet fumed implosion on the back of that marble. Kaj Beck was the head glassblower and put all of the pieces together into the final products, including the construction of the main 'Glass Addiction' milli cane. JD Anderson did the backside of the 2nd marble and also finished it.
These artists did an amazing job on these marbles, and I would like to thank them all for their incredible skills and their donations of time and materials for this project. Special thanks go to Kaj for the very large amount of time and energy he put into heading this up and putting the marbles together. Thank you Kaj!!
The first marble will officially be 'owned' by the entire Glass Addiction community, and will travel around the world to visit all of the different members and have its picture taken with each of the members and also their families if they so choose. It will be fun to see where its journey takes it! The second marble will be auctioned off on eBay soon, most likely going to a GA member collector. The proceeds of the auction will all go back to the artists, part of it to the winner of the 2008 Alphabet Marble Contest which ends May 14th.
