Though I was looking for garnet at the time, it did not take me too long to realize that at long last I had finally found a sample of Colorado No. 9 (Dark Blue Sapphire) from the Calumet Mine vicinity. Tabular hexogonal crystals max out at just over 4 mm's in this sample.
