28th - Juxtaposition: Old & New

Cheltenham, Glos.

Another street grab, this time the obverse of Tue 25th - this is looking across Imperial Square and the gardens toward the hideous Eagle Tower, erected in 1968. What were they thinking, plonking a huge tower block in the centre of a Georgian town? Anyhoo, if you can get past the architectural vandalism, this makes for a contrasty photo if nothing else...

Interesting wide view. I like the perspective and diffused lighting.

I get it that design can be subjective, but there really is no excuse for poor design.

Same thing happened here in the 1960's. We have some very unattractive buildings, functional but devoid of style or imagination or respect for history. Good photo. Like the lush greenery in the foreground.

The Georgian architectural style is just about perfect, in my opinion.

Couldn't put it better, Doug. The 60's produced some ridiculous thinking !!
Those Georgian buildings are wonderful. V

the foreground buildings do seem on a more human scale...good detail captured in that sullen sky..
