And...Lift!

Gloucester Docks, Glos. view map

Had to nip to Gloucester this lunchtime, and thought if I was lucky I might be able to capture the lift bridge over the Sharpness Canal in action.

And yes, I was in luck - there was water-born traffic needing to get under, so here she is, the Llanthony Road bridge lifting! Unluckily (or stupidly, I'll leave that up to you...) I didn't think this out, and completely forgot to get the barge as she swished majestically underneath. Even more unluckily (or stupidly, etc...) I continued to forget that I should have thus framed the shot until I got home

I would also like to apologise for the messiness of the picture - there's a lot going on here, not much of it of photographical merit, and there's no real focal point...but it's all I have today, so it will have to do I'm afraid!

Tuesday 25th's well-conceived but somewhat badly executed entry to the August Challenge; for other travelling Pbasers this month (most of whom will have done much better) click here

If at first you don't succeed!!! ... as they say.
I must say I would quite liked to have seen the barge,
but I have a good imagination.

Looks fine to me, esp in B&W.
Good capture of the bridge in action.

Don't have to be sorry. There is a lot to see. Interesting.

I like it! A very different looking bridge.

Love the shot , stop one mode of transportation to let another go thru

There are a couple of things I miss about photo school. One, in the days of wet photography, was the lab tech. "Hey Larry we're getting low on D76". The other was having other photographers around. Someone who could bring you, and your God's gift to photography image back to earth with a passing, " Too bad you tanked that one". And , those very same classmates stopping you from tossing an image out. Nice shot, heed your classmates.

What's the apologizing for? I think it's a great shot, very sharp with a lot of detail, well centered on the lifted span and nicely converted to b&w with a wide range of gray tones.

I love this! i think you did a bang up job on this!

The focus is surely on the lifting bridge.
Stop apologising LOL!

YES. Another super B&W!
Dave Perez25-Aug-2009 22:11
Without this bridge ..... you ain't crossing this canal here! That's a transportation matter for sure! Nice catch!
Linda Willets25-Aug-2009 21:49
Great in B/W.
laine25-Aug-2009 21:21
Well I guess someone toppling off the edge would have made it more dramatic but it's still a good shot, Doug :))

Great POV and toning!
Man with the Golden Gun I am sure Norman is referring to

I see James, James Bond ... in his car flying over the top and still in mid-air before landing on the other side. Great capture don't apologise, just also get the vilan's car exploding while he hits the bridge, the next time. :)

Nice image, looks good in mono. Boats aren't everything, the bridge is fine.
Johnny JAG25-Aug-2009 19:18
Nice shot, and now you have a good excuse to go back.
