Something Old, Something New

Cheltenham, Glos

My trusty old Praktica MTL3...and my trusty new(ish) Nikon D300 :o)

I love my Praktica - it was my first camera and I fell in love with it at first sight! Mind you, it was a beast to carry, it didn't fit in my hands very well (no hand-grip) and had rudimentary metering but it got me completely hooked on photography!! And for that, I am truly thankful :o). And I love my D300, too - it's just a wonderful piece of technology which is so easy to use it makes me look a competent photographer!! These two are chalk and cheese but they both produce wonderful photos and I'm so glad I have them both...

One day, I'm going to purchase some B&W slide film, replace the metering battery and take the Praktica out for a spin!

Now this is trick photography! - which camera took the shot?

Excellent interpretation and very well done.
(I started with an Agfa Click (when I was 10 years of age); after that a Canon A1; they both still work.)

I remember seeing the Praktica, I think my father had one.
Very sturdy.
Post your pictures if you get around to using it.

Ah yes, the old and the new, but the new will age irreparably before the old I suspect :o)

Very cool photo and a great idea for the challenge. I still have my first SLR a 1968 Pentax Spotmatic. Wouldn't ever part with it.

An ideal entry for this challenge, so very suitable for us who are obsessed with photography. Very well done.

Hello Doug,
Funny how I started with a Praktica LTL3 with the 42mm screw fit lens. A great camera and
you really had to compose each picture, write settings down then wait a fortnight to see if you went wrong. 36 frames a week was extravagant and the learning curve was huge.
Now I have the D70 and its been fantastic up untill this week, the 18 to 70 zoom lens is catching and sticking between 50 and 35mm. The D70 camera is getting old but still working well.
Guess you used Finns camera for this great shot, good work.
Been thinking about another p base meet up sometime you up to it ? maybe a cycle and shoot event you have a neat looking bike !!!!!!

My first slr was a Zenit E, which was traded in for Pentax Spotmatic SP500 and I still have it. I share you sentiments analogue vs digital and your open-ness on the resulting image quality. Great illustration too!!

Excellent for the challenge! I love my D300 also, my first SLR was a Minolta SR1, which sad to say is long gone.
