To Hand

Cheltenham, Glos.

I don't know if it's just me or if it happens to all Gentlemen of A Certain Age, but I find myself becoming increasingly bewildered by all the gadgets which are thrown at us these days, supposedly to help us and make our lives more easy. The above is just what I could find at random - I've already lost the remotes for the CD changer and hi-fi amplifier....

...I've not done it yet, but one day I'll answer the phone with the TV remote, and try to fast-forward the DVD with my mobile...or plug the PS2 controller into the camera to take a long exposure....I just hope the kids aren't around when that happens otherwise my life won't be worthy living!

Doug, you are defenitely not alone regarding dealing with the technological crap they throw at us :-) Even in photography, it's a growing and serious disease. Buying another camera even of the same brand, you probably need to switch to a new storage medium like from Compact Flash to SD Cards, then most likely the new model has a completely new battery, which of course doesn't fit into the charger you had before. For storing pictures while being on a long vacation, you need some sort of hardiskphoto-viewer to store them onto. Of course, the newest camera has a completely new RAW format, which is not yet recognized by the software you currently use on the computer, and on the harddisk photo viewer, the new RAW format is not and will not be recognized. And so on...
Give me back film and I'm completely happy. :-)

Do you remember when you had to get up off the couch, walk a few steps and actually turn a dial?
Fay Stout06-Mar-2009 03:02
So many remotes... so little time...

That IS a lot of gadgets to deal with.

What amazes me, is how quickly even very young children are able to cope with all of this ...... while us older ones take ages to learn the basics. A good concept for a picture. Well done.

I know the feeling - a touch of GOM. We got one of the remotes which is supposed to all TV related appliances - too complicated for words. Its all the different versions of chargers that really get me.

We have a basket of remotes, most rarely used and so many gadgets, I forget how they all work!
Nice collection!
