tari topeng is a well known traditional dance from the ciayumajakuning region (cirebon, indramayu, majalengka, kuningan). There are 23 dance studios around the region that specialize in tari topeng, and one of them is founded by the legendary tari topeng maestro mimi rasina who passed away exactly on the day the festival started.
the dance is performed in the first half without the mask, then with mask in the latter half, by first covering the face in cloth (with mask inserted inside the cloth), then as the dancer reveals his/her face, the mask is already in tact. After the dancer wears the mask, the character of the dancer changes into fierce and more energetic, thus the whole dance portrays between good and evil.
