Today was our final morning in Yosemite National Park and we hiked the Sentinel Dome Trail in search of a reliable Sooty Grouse that hangs around the base of the dome. We did not locate the grouse but a surprise find was a covey of Mountain Quail that was being flushed by a Black Bear. We had thought our chances for that quail were done. So, we were quite glad to see it. On our way to our next birding area we checked out a stretch of road in Oakdale, Stanislaus County that was reliable for Yellow-billed Magpie and it did not disappoint as we got to watch a small flock of the magpies forage for 20 minutes.
