This and the following ten photographs are a sequence showing a Pileated Woodpecker hunting for grubs in a dead pine tree located behind our home. It took the bird less than two minutes to prepare the tree for dining.

Beautiful shot Jeanne! This is the closest I've ever been to a Pileated. Like your description of the action too. V.

Hi Jeanne,

Such an AWESOME capture and action shot of a beautiful bird. I saw this image at Tom Munson's house. We were very impressed. Thanks for the compliments on my photos. You are an inspiration to me as well. I will have to upgrade on a Canon30D. I just have a simple point and shot camera and a 1.7 teleconverter.

If you have time, check out my Northern BC photos.
