Darkish eye, red orbital, and the pattern of black in the wingtip all point to Vega Gull (see wingtip pattern number 3 on p. 28 of Olsen and Larsson's Gulls of North America, Europe and Asia. However, the mantle is too pale and the black of the outermost primary appears faded (gray instead of black). Assuming the colors are not distorted, I wonder if this is a hybrid Vega x Glaucous-winged Gull. In any case it is an example of a large gull where field marks don't seem to line up to any one typical species. - Nick Komar
