Our final tribute to Oliver

Here is our final tribute to our adopted and loving dog 'Oliver'. Oliver is 13 - 14 years old and suffers from a degenerative spinal cord problem described as "Degenerative Myelopathy". This is a progressive disease and begins with loss of coordination in the hind limbs. As the disease progresses the dog begins to buckle and has difficulty standing. In the final stages of the disease the following symptoms begin to occur. 1. Inability to climb stairs 2. Loss of balance 3. Hind leg muscle loss 4. Difficulty lying down or raising up 5. Bladder and / or bowel incontinence We have seen all of these symptoms in Oliver increasing over the last 6 months. As our trusted pet physician, for the last 15 years, advised us that when Oliver is no longer Oliver it is time to let go. In animals, this disease is very similar to ALS in humans, and very painful to watch as the pet's condition gets progressively worse with no hope of recovery. Oliver went to "Dog Heaven" on Valentine's Day morning 2017 under the loving care of Main Street Vet's during a pre-arranged "Celebration of Life" ceremony. We named our adopted dog "Oliver" because of a pet food commercial. https://www.youtube.com/embed/GUpqDKqKOj. Just like the commercial Teri & I often say ...... It's our lucky "Oliver" day.
