These are the twin peaks of Mount Kawaikini (center left) and Mount Waialeale (center right). Mt. Waialeale (elevation 5,148ft) is better known as the wettest place on the face of the Earth, receiving 430 inches of rain per year. The lesser known Mt. Kawaikini is actually 95 feet taller at elevation 5,243. Locals on Kaua'i note that the tops of these mountains are visible only a handful of days per year, the rest of the time being shrouded in clouds that dump enormous amounts of rain, averaging over 1" per day!
