Like any lens, it is not as sharp as it can be when you shoot wide open. If you stop the lens down to f8 or f11, it is probably indistinguishable from most other lenses. I think this photo shows typical DOF for an f8 aperture. Because the focus point is so close to the lens, the background is slightly blurry, but not nearly as blurry if I had used f3.5.

Although the lens was at 24mm f./8 the DOF is very shallow.
Howcome. I intend to purchase this lens but am very reluctant
because I heard that it's not sharp as other Nikkor lenses.
