The big tunnel on the east road in Zion is about 1 mile long. Carved out of the stone, there are no lights and it is very narrow—so rangers control traffic at both ends. When it was built, they cut several large (and irregularly shaped)window openings through to the canyon side to let daylight in. You are not supposed to stop in the tunnel but it is so hard to not slow down to see the resulting unique views. I got lucky going through one time and there were no other vehicles near me. I had the camera ready when I stopped at this one(the biggest) just long enough to shoot off an auto bracket of 3 shots from my car window.
What you see out this wnidow is the impressive stone peak of East Temple at 7,700 feet. In the image, I caught wisps of rain shower clouds that were moving quickly up the canyon. You can tell I was in a hurry because I just cut off the top of the window opening at the top of the frame.
