Janet is standing in the opening of "the chimney", a cleft in the rock ahich is about 14 inches wide and 20 yards long, providing handholds and toeholds as the only way to the first summit of Catamount. This was just one of the things which was a challenge to us as we made this climb, one of the more difficult ones we've done (though it is by no means a "technical climb") but also one of the more interesting and rewarding climbs.
