Here's a quick test of the G10 camera at ISO 400. Note that one image started as a JPG. No noise reduction was applied to that one originally, since in-camera NR had already been applied. I've added a version to which additional NR was applied - but the result at full size is still mediocre. The JPG would make a very good 5.5X7 inch print, but not much beyond that. The JPG was also over-sharpened a bit - sorry about that. I miscalculated how much softening would occur when the images were compressed by pbase.
For the RAW files, while there's no question that lower ISOs produce better image files, even at ISO 400 detail retention is good to excellent and initial noise (before applying NR) is surprisingly small for this small sensor camera. Since it's often pointed out correctly that higher ISOs do much better if the light is ample, I included one image shot at shutter speed 1/640, one at 1/125, and one at 1/80. They've all had changes to their white balance, color balance, brightness and contrast during the very quick edits I did. That is, they were not untouched native images, so they con't show the camera's capabilities at their best. I'm a little embarrassesd by the random color balances of these, but the message is clear - detail retention is excellent, with no noise which would show up even in a 12X18 print, or perhaps larger. Noise reduction was done with Topaz Denoise 3 at about 1/2 of the default settings, sharpening with PS CS USM.
