This appears to be a pulpit and being laden with goldleaf must be someone's vision of how the priest should imitate the Divine. Somehow I doubt the Carpenter from Bethlehem would use a pulpit like this, more likely a jack-legged deer stand. Notwithstanding the place looks "heavenly" in the idealized sense and glows in this respectable image. V
