Christ of the Abyss Mural"
Now here is an interesting story. As you know, during our snorkeling experience in Key Largo we were taken to Dry Rocks reef about six miles into the Atlantic Ocean.
At this reef we were able to "see Jesus" that is, the "Christ of the Abyss" statue which is submerged at this popular reef.
After our snorkeling adventure, I was reading some tourist literature and read that another casting of this famous statue is located at St. Justin’s Martyr Catholic Church at MM 105.5 BS in Key Largo.
The church commissioned this casting and placed the statue on the church grounds in 1991.
We had gone to Mass at this church both on Sunday and Ash Wednesday of the week we spent in Key Largo and DID NOT notice this statue! Hard to believe!
On my Friday, March 7, 2014 bike ride I was on a mission to ride to the church and view the statue.
Here are photos of the Christ of the Abyss statue and other statues on the church grounds.
