While resized down to only 1200x800, it still shows off the incredible
resolution of the Canon 180/3.5 L Macro lens.
All of my "L" series lenses are sharp - no doubt. The 180, however,
is in a league of its own - both among my collection and
among macro lenses period.
Initially, I wanted the increased working distance offered by the 180, but
I'm not sure now. I probably won't make a decision on it till the summer
when I have a chance to use it on insects.
A couple of notes on the lens: it's terrific as a mid-length tele
along with the intended macro use. Compared to the Sigma 150/2.8, the
focus speed and accuracy is a huge improvement. The Siggy would often
hunt back and forth, even when used with the focus limiter. No such issue
with the Canon. Neither can be handheld when used as macros - both are too
heavy. Both are absolutely awesome macro lenses, even with the mentioned
caveats.
